⭐ Child Autism Assessment

Child Autism Assessment

Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is a developmental condition that affects how children interact socially, communicate, learn, and perceive the world.

Early diagnosis and intervention can significantly improve outcomes for children with Autism. Psych2Gether provides comprehensive evidence-based assessments and tailor-made treatment recommendations following NHS & NICE guidelines.

Child Autism Assessment
Why Early Assessment Matters

Why Get Your Child an Early Autism Assessment?

Understand How Your Child Learns — An assessment shows how your child takes in information, solves problems, and picks up new skills so teaching and play can match their learning style.

Help Your Child Reach Milestones Sooner — Early insight means targeted supports that speed up progress in language, social play, and daily living skills.

Get Practical Strategies for Home & School — You'll leave with simple, everyday approaches teachers and parents can use to make learning clearer and more enjoyable.

Make School Work for Your Child — Assessment makes it easier to get tailored classroom supports, EHCPs, or teaching approaches that help your child thrive academically and socially.

Build a Learning Team Around Your Child — Early evaluation connects you with therapists and educators who collaborate to support consistent progress.

Signs to Look Out For in Your Child

Late to talk, using fewer gestures, or trouble starting/keeping conversations.
Avoiding eye contact, preferring to play alone, or struggling to share interest and enjoyment.
Repetitive behaviours (hand movements, lining up toys), strong routines, or distress with small changes.
Very sensitive — or not sensitive enough — to sounds, textures, lights, or touch.
Deep interests, sharp attention to detail, or other unique strengths to build on.
If you'd like to talk through what you're seeing, schedule an assessment, or get advice on next steps, Psych2Gether offers compassionate, practical support tailored to your family. Reach out and we'll walk through this with you — one step at a time.

Comprehensive Multidisciplinary Assessment — 4 Sessions

A child-centred assessment from a paediatrician/consultant psychiatrist and an expert clinical psychologist, with Speech & Language Therapy (SLT) and Occupational Therapy (OT) input as needed. Follows NICE guidelines.

1

Session 1 — Medical & Developmental History (60 min): Covers developmental milestones, medical history, sleep and feeding patterns, family history, and current concerns. Evaluates differential diagnoses (e.g. ADHD, anxiety, learning difficulties).

2

Session 2 — Parent/Caregiver ADI-R Interview (90–120 min): A detailed developmental and medical history using the Autism Diagnostic Interview–Revised (ADI-R), review of questionnaires and school reports, and exploration of co-occurring conditions.

3

Session 3 — Direct Child ADOS-2 Assessment (90 min): A clinical psychologist administers the Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule, Second Edition (ADOS-2) in a child-friendly, play-based format. SLT or OT checks included if needed.

4

Session 4 — MDT Discussion & Feedback: The multidisciplinary team integrates findings from the standardised observations, parent interview, and pre-assessment questionnaires, then gives clear feedback on diagnostic conclusions, recommended treatments and support options, and answers any questions.

Diagnostic Report (Within 2 Weeks)

We hold a compassionate feedback session with parents/carers to explain findings, diagnosis (if any), strengths, and clear, practical next steps. You'll receive a confidential, easy-to-use diagnostic report within two weeks. With your permission we can share it with your GP, school/SENCO, or other professionals.

FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I start?
Book a free 15-minute video chat with us. We'll talk through your concerns, explain the process, and advise next steps.
What information will I need to provide?
We'll ask for developmental history, medical details, school or nursery reports (with consent), and you'll complete parent questionnaires. A brief informant form for someone who's known your child long-term is also helpful.
Will my child be upset?
We aim to make sessions relaxed and engaging. Assessors are experienced with sensory needs and anxiety; we adapt to your child's pace and can split visits if needed.
How do girls present differently with autism?
Many girls "mask" autism — copying social behaviour and hiding struggles. They often have quiet special interests, internalise anxiety or depression, and show subtler sensory or communication differences, so signs are missed. Psych2Gether specialists use tailored interviews, developmental history, and observation to detect camouflaged traits.
At what age can my child be assessed for autism?
Psych2Gether offers assessment from age 5 onwards.
Do you assess for related conditions (e.g., ADHD, anxiety, learning differences)?
Yes. Our multidisciplinary approach screens for co-occurring conditions so recommendations address the whole picture, not just autism alone.
What if we disagree with the assessment outcome?
We'll discuss any concerns in follow up, explain our reasoning, and can arrange second opinions or further assessment, if appropriate, at an extra cost.
Will the report be accepted by NHS?
Many NHS teams should accept a comprehensive, NICE-aligned Psych2Gether assessment report — based on standardised measures (ADI-R, ADOS-2), multidisciplinary input and clear clinical formulation — though acceptance varies by local trust.
Will an assessment affect our child's school placement?
An assessment itself doesn't change placement, but the findings can support tailored in-school adjustments, SEN support, or an EHCP application if needed.
How do you involve the child's voice in the process?
Where appropriate, we ask the child about their likes, dislikes and worries using age-appropriate methods; older children/teens are supported to share their goals and views.
How do I book or ask questions?
Contact Psych2Gether via phone or email to book your free 15-minute consultation or to ask any questions. We're here to listen and support you every step of the way.
